Welcome to Kaimai Lettuce. You can find me every Saturday at Tauranga Farmers Market in whatever weather. We have been supplying the Market now for over 9 years at Tauranga Primary School and just love it. We are up and about very early on a Saturday morning to ensure people get fresh produce which will last all week. We grow 8 different varieties of Fancy Lettuce but not all are taken to market. We have introduced 2 new red varieties this year. The red rose babyleaf type and a red cos. If you happen to miss out you can also buy my product at The Fresh Market, Gate Pa.
We have been commercial tomato growers in Te Puna for more than 20 years. We offer a range of tomatoes, as well as telegraph and lebanese cucumbers; eggplants; capsicums; and beans when in season. We are at the market every Saturday from November to June.
As foundation members of the Market many of you will know John and Mary as Potato Power, but with Nick now helping they have rebranded to Garden Fresh. This reflects the year round range of fresh vegetables and fruits available. Following the seasons you will find potatoes, sweetcorn, beetroot, tender stem broccoli, broad beans, heritage pumpkin and so much more.

Kandu organics is a small BioGro certified orchard and garden owned and operated by Kevin Parsons and Ulli Rose. It is situated on the harbour’s edge just North of Tauranga where the mild climate and very fertile soil allow for growing a wide range of nutritious and tasty fruit and vegetables all year round. They pretty much grow everything that they like eating themselves and usually taste all their produce before they go to the market. You will often find taster platters at their stand or pumpkins numbered according to their taste preference. The produce is grown in a sustainable way using organic and permaculture principles. Kandu organics grows many heritage varieties that are high in flavour and nutrients.

At a nursery block of land in Katikati you will find Peter and Jasmin are busy growing produce in their spare ground. Summer garlic, sugar snap peas and all year round they grow snow peas and baby spring onions. But with a wealth of knowledge and passion for growing, they are sure to bring more produce to the Market.
Liberty Growers is a New Zealand family owned business that hydroponically grows and sells fine herbs, fresh vegetables, edible flowers, and some fruit. Some of this varies seasonally and we are growing new products all the time.
Every Summer, Teresa and her Mum bring the trailer load of sweetcorn to the Market. The corn is picked on the Friday afternoon to ensure the utmost freshness. This is a family affair with Teresa and Phillip’s children helping every week with the harvest. Dependent on the outcome of each summer, the corn is usually ready for harvest from approximately the 3rd week of January through till April.

The paddocks of TE TEKO vegetables lie with the backdrop of Mount Edgcumbe, that magnificent shaped extinct volcano. Or is it just dormant? Allan has been in horticulture for many years, perfecting the growing technics of ground grown vegetables. Closely following the seasons, Allan plants to bring successive seasonal vegetables to the Market. All year round these plantings bring cauliflower, broccolli, cabbage, silverbeet and pumpkin. Winter sees the addition of kumara to the table. Summer brings the melon range of watermelons, rockmelons, and honey dew. Sweetcorn and kamokamo are another speciality. Harvested fresh each Friday for the Saturday Market.
Located just outside the city of Tauranga in the country side of Whakamaramara you will find Spring Valley Orchards. Lyn and Neville grow a wide range of seasonal speciality ground crops. Rhubarb is always available at Lyn’s stall. Seasonal tree crops include avocados, a variety of apples, but only small quantities at this stage as the trees mature. Passionfruit and tamarillos are available in varying quantities according to mother natures season. Also available is their very own Avocado oil. If you have something specific you are after, do ask Lyn.
The first of the 2013 olive oil press of the Koroneiki olive variety is available now. Koroneiki is a Greek variety and is harvested green/yellowish green to avoid losses to birds. The oil has a peppery aspect due to the “unripe” fruit and leafy tones and is quite fragrant. The oil is green and still cloudy. Typically for very fresh oil. Over time the tiny fruit flesh particles causing the cloudiness will settle and the oil will clear. This cloudiness is therefore sought after by connoisseurs as it is a sign of freshness. Green fruit produces higher levels of anti-oxidants, an important health factor. Anti-oxidants also help to prevent the oil from going “bad” when heated and extend its shelf life.
The grove and pressing operation are BioGro organic certified, covering both the olive oils and table olives.

Specialists in the field, that’s what the Catos family from the Waikato region are, in regard to potatoes and garlic. The potato varieties are many from the popular early variety of Jersey Bennie to the more usual varieties of the yellow fleshed Anuschka or the Pink Fir Apple that looks like a yam. All of the potato varieties are hand dug according to demand. The garlic varieties are their other specialist product. Ranging from the mild to the very full bodied traditional Spanish garlic. In between these crops from approximately March to Christmas they also grow kumara, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots and green cabbage.

In a sheltered spot in the Katikati region Annette and her husband grow flowers and vegetables. Annette follows the seasons with her plantings, so the variety is extensive. Follow the seasons with their changing range of vegetables and don’t for the seasonal flowers. That changes as well. But there is loads more than just that!
